Emigrants Rose From: Since World War II, Greece has been spared the population explosion that has characterized many developing nations. But its low annual population growth was attributable in large part to renewed emigration. The number of emigrants rose from 30,000 in 1955 to 117,000 in 1965. The chief recipients were the United States, Canada, Australia, and especially West Germany.
Ever since the Middle Ages the pope has, on Laetare Sunday, blessed a golden rose which he bestows on some bene¬ficiary. Some Italian writers have declared that the term sub rosa is derived from the fact of consecrated roses being placed over the confes¬sionals at Rome to denote secrecy, the rose being a symbol of silence. In legend, Saint Dorothea, who suffered martyrdom under Fabricius, made a convert of Theophilus by sending him some roses from paradise. The rose is an attribute of Saints Casilda, Elizabeth of Portugal, Rose of Lirna, Rose of Viterbo, Rosalia, and others.See Also Temper¬ature Rose Above:Materials selected from 44.31.2 are not to be used at temperatures lower than those indicated in 44.31.9 and are to be tested at temper¬atures at least 5.5C (10F) below the minimum design service temper¬ature. Where the test temperature is determined to be below — 196C (-320F), testing may be conducted at -196C (-320F).
The fuel which finally met most requirements was GALCIT 53, consisting of a mixture of potassium perchlorate with asphalt and asphalt oil. While it was reliable, it began to become viscous and flow if the temper¬ature rose above 100° F., and it had the drawback of developing enormous clouds of dense white smoke. A later version, GALCIT 61-C, was somewhat better and was used until the end of the war by the navy.
On The Other Hand See Rose -colored:Quartz crystallizes in the rhombohedral sys¬tem, generally as six-sided prisms usually termi¬nated at each end by six-sided pyramids. Among the crystalline varieties of quartz are rock crystal, amethyst, smoky quartz, rose -colored quartz, and milky quartz. The mineral is colorless when pure, but ranges through various shades of yellow, red, brown, blue, and green to black when impure.
Of the colored varieties of crystalline quartz, amethyst is clear purple or bluish-violet, and is popular as a gem. rose -colored quartz, which always occurs massive, is rose -colored red or pink.
The potters in this period created the porcelains now known by their French names of famille noire, famille verte, and the famille rose -colored, these names being derived from their background colors. The famille noire is a rare black porcelain decorated with gold or painted with brilliant en¬amel colors. Famille verte designates a porcelain of rich green background with applied colored Decoration in transparent enamel. Famille rose -colored is a precious porcelain with a background of a beautiful rose -colored color, made from gold, and upon which enamelled colors are painted. Sometimes the rose -colored shades were applied on a fine white porcelain. The Chinese perfected beautiful purple and yellpw glazes, but these are extremely rare. The yel¬low or famille jaune was used mainly to adorn imperial palaces.
