Green Island":![Green Island"](img/green-island"-.jpg) Sao Miguel calls itself "The Green Island" in tourist folders but its fabulous hydrangea highways, thick hedges with blue blossoms lining the roads on both sides mile after mile, make it a blue-green island for two or three months from about July 1. I have never seen anything in my travels at all like these island roads. They resemble green tunnels through luxuriant shade trees arching overhead, with a blue and white "dado" on either side.
Good ivy-leaved varieties are: "Abel Carriere" (soft purple); "Galilee" (pink); "Jeanne d'Arc" (white); "Mrs W. A. R. Clifton" (scarlet).

Larva (caterpillar): Light green; 7 oblique white stripes on each side of body; rear segment bears purplish-red horn; grows to length of 4 inches.

Estimate the amount of fabric and take the pattern repeat into account, so that all widths match. Allow one complete repeat for every width except the first. For example, if you are joining widths, add an extra 1 2in (30cm) to the overall width of the the curtains to allow for turns and side seams,
For the headings, if you use a standard heading tape on short curtains, add an extra Sin (20cm) for hems and headings, and allow up to 1 Sin (37.5cm) for deep headings on full-length curtains. If you are using velvet, the pile of the fabric should always hang the same way.
