Keep A Basket Of Logs: This original cast-iron fireplace needed work to look as good as it does. It was stripped to reveal the lustrous metal, then blue tiles were fitted either side. The hearth is laid with large slate tiles that match the surround and there's space to keep a basket of logs conveniently to hand.
More permanent installations require their own housings and these types are characterised by the basket strainer. a. Maneuvering the vessel to reduce the effect of wind. It is generally recommended that the Boat be turned into the wind, as the fire is usually aft; this allows persons on board not needed for fighting the fire to assemble on the bow.
b. Closing hatches, ports, vents, doors, etc., if the fire is in an area where this action will be effective.
