Materials Rose: Imports have grown faster than exports. Be¬tween 1963 and 1968, imports of food and raw materials rose, in money terms, by less than 25%, but imports of finished manufactures rose by 153%. Among them, the growth of imports of capital goods was most significant. Machinery imports as a proportion of investment in ma¬chinery, for example, rose steadily from 8.4$ in 1956 to 16.7% in 1965. This highlights an im¬portant bottleneck in the British economy—its limited capacity to produce capital goods.
Ever since the Middle Ages the pope has, on Laetare Sunday, blessed a golden rose which he bestows on some bene¬ficiary. Some Italian writers have declared that the term sub rosa is derived from the fact of consecrated roses being placed over the confes¬sionals at Rome to denote secrecy, the rose being a symbol of silence. In legend, Saint Dorothea, who suffered martyrdom under Fabricius, made a convert of Theophilus by sending him some roses from paradise. The rose is an attribute of Saints Casilda, Elizabeth of Portugal, Rose of Lirna, Rose of Viterbo, Rosalia, and others.See Also Find A Rose Listed:You might not expect to find a rose listed for a shade garden but one particular variety of the French rose (Rosa gallica 'Versicolor') has brightened this corner of our garden for over ten years, sending forth its sweet-smelling white, pink, and red-petalled blossoms every June. Often called the Rosa Mundi, the dried petals of this rose were thought to have medicinal value and were used as a flavoring for other medicines in years gone by. Our bush remains small, never topping 3 feet in height, and is hardy here in Zone 5 but only in a protected spot.
In Christian iconography we find the rose and blood of Christ brought into close symbolic cor¬relation and in the Catacombs the rose and wreath of roses are pictured as symbols of martyrdom. In ecclesiastical art we early find the Holy Virgin symbolized by the rose (rosa mystica) and one of her titles became in Italy Santa Maria della Rosa. The flower is often found in her hand in early paintings. An¬other one of the Virgin's titles is Rosa Coeli, the Rose of Heaven.
On The Other Hand See Rose Quartz:Quartz crystallizes in the rhombohedral sys¬tem, generally as six-sided prisms usually termi¬nated at each end by six-sided pyramids. Among the crystalline varieties of quartz are rock crystal, amethyst, smoky quartz, rose quartz, and milky quartz. The mineral is colorless when pure, but ranges through various shades of yellow, red, brown, blue, and green to black when impure.
Of the colored varieties of crystalline quartz, amethyst is clear purple or bluish-violet, and is popular as a gem. Rose quartz, which always occurs massive, is rose red or pink.
The average enrol! ment of 500 will be doubled by 1970; this expar. sion is being planned in such a way as to allov. the college to maintain the attributes of a small school with high standards of instruction. Rose is developing cooperative programs with DePau University, with St.-Mary-of-the-Woods, ar/ others to expand the range of offerings availab!-and to increase the efficiency of its educatio: program.
