Bold colours team together brilliantly in this room. There's plenty of natural light to stop them feeling oppressive, plus the wooden floor, Table top and Mahogany chairs add more subtle, natural colour and help anchor the scheme. Original Wall panelling has been given a coat of green that's toned down by the cream shutters above. Old chairs have been treated to colourful new seat covers and a reclaimed radiator has been sand blasted and painted yellow to bring it into the twenty first century.
A pine Table is a country style classic, but here it's been given a shot of extra personality as its underside and legs have been painted bold blue. It's teamed with old Mahogany chairs from a reclamation yard that have been brought up to date by re-covering the seats with colourful fabric.See Also Rich Mahogany Brown:Back in the perennial border we planted a group of sedums (Sedum Telephium 'Autumn Joy') in front of a clump of cord grass (Spartina pectinata 'Aureo-Marginata'). In winter the sedums turn a rich Mahogany brown, each bunch of blossoms becoming a glowing pincushion set off by the curving golden tan leaves of the grass.
If you go for creamy white on most of the walls you can afford to be brave and add lots of rich, chocolatey tones elsewhere. Here, a deep brown carpet, cushions in a mix of cocoa shades and lavish silk curtains create a sophisticated feel. Shots of purple are also woven in to lift the brown and cream - think of a bar of Dairy Milk, the chocolate peeping out from its purple foil wrapper, and you have your scheme.
On The Other Hand See Dark Mahogany:Daylilies (Hemerocallis spp.) are among the most popular flowers in America. The American Hemerocallis Society publishes a quar¬terly bulletin that rivals T.V. Guide in format and number of pages. These plants are hardy almost to a fault, are generally disease resis¬tant, tolerant of almost any soil around, and, according to type, bloom from early spring to late fall. There are now thousands of listed varieties in the United States with colors from the palest of yellow to dark mahogany.
Hot, spicy shades like orange, rich green and deep red love to take over so they work best when used as accents, rather than all over the walls. Here, walls are painted a hessian shade and teamed with a Sofa in matching fabric, creating a background that's pale and neutral. Dark, warm tones are added here by a mahogany Floor and console Table and the really spicy shades are confined to the curtain, a border on the Blind and the cushions -just enough colour to enliven the scheme, but not so much that it dominates.
