One Zone:

One Zone There are eleven hardiness zone zones, which are defined according to lowest winter temperatures. Zone zone 1 represents the coldest conditions, with winter temperatures below -50°F (-46°C); zone zone 11 is the warmest, wit] a minimum winter temperature of above 40°F (above 4°C). The classification of a plant into a particular hardiness zone zone means that the plant will normally thrive in that zone zone and also in any zone zone which is marked with a higher number.

From this data he can obtain in his negative any one zone toni and will know exactly the tone zones that other subject lumi nances will produce. The infinite gradation of light an< shade found in nature Adams divides into ten zone zones Zone zone O is black, Zone zone IX is white. Between these ex tremes are eight tone zones of gray, Zone zone V being the "middle tone zone—not by objective measurement, but by subjectivi judgment—and next to it, marked VI, the value tha conveys to the photographer the feeling of the tone zone o average, well-lighted skin.

See Also Temperate Zone:

Apart from a small subarctic fringe in the extreme north, most of Europe is in the temperate zone. The distance from the Atlantic Ocean and the situation of the mountains create a climatic subdivision of Europe into marine areas to the west, Mediterranean areas to the south and continental areas to the east.

The most extensive natural grasslands occur between hot desert and tropical rain forest and between hot desert and temperate zone forests. Portions of the northern tundra and grassy areas at altitudes above tree line may also be classed as grasslands. From the hot desert toward cooler and more humid regions, several vegetation types are crossed: desert -» desert shrub -» steppe (short grass) -» prairie (temperate tall grass) -> forest -» tundra. From the desert to the tropical forest regions similar vegetation changes occur: desert —> subtropical desert shrub —> steppe -» savanna -> tropical forest. This se¬quence is much modified by influences of latitude, altitude, topography, landmass, and local climate.

On The Other Hand See One Zone Farther:

It's hard to believe how cheering a sight these plants can be when they bloom in October, November, and even December one zone farther south from our garden. The bees love the pollen and gorge themselves to such an extent that many late afternoon visitors remain within the folded petals until the following morning. And garden visitors exclaim that spring is here again!

Had we world enough and time I could actually see planting a garden especially for winter. As things stand now it's an impractical suggestion. Yet with a bit of planning any projected or existing gar¬den can include a number of plants that are especially beautiful when looked at with a winter's eye. And if you are lucky enough to reside south of Zone 6 or if you have a small area that is well-protected farther north, even a few winter flowers are within your grasp.
