Paving With Lawns And:

Paving With Lawns And The Docklands Authority selected American Landscape Architect, Martha Schwartz, to design the space. Her design features a striking composition of a red 'carpet' extending from the theatre into and over the dock crossed by a lush green 'carpet' of paving with lawns and vegetation. The red 'carpet' will be made of bright red resin-glass paving covered with red glowing angled light sticks.

ALTHOUGH CRAZY paving has often been sneered at, there is a great deal to be said for it, provided that the broken stone of which it is constructed is natural and also that it is properly laid. It is those bits of broken cement or synthetic paving, or stretches of cement marked out in a random pattern, or poorly fitted paving with ugly, thick mortar joints that have given crazy paving a bad name. Properly laid random paving can look perfect in a rural setting, although it is inclined to seem out of place in cities or with avant-garde architecture. If you intend to use natural stone for your crazy paving, bear in mind that the pieces are likely to vary considerably in thickness. Prepare the ground carefully if the paving is to present a flat, even surface.

See Also Lawns And Groundcovers:

Some ground-covers, such as creeping thyme, yarrow, chamomile and dichondra are fair subŽstitutes. They stand more wear than most groundcovers but are not as good as grass. Despite these limitations, groundcovers other than grass are important. Properly used they cut maintenance and improve the appearance of the garden. Some grow vigorously where shade is dense, or the soil infertile, or too dry for maintaining good turf. Most groundcovers need no regular mowing, which is an advantage. Yet it is fair to reflect that the same conŽtinuous growth that makes mowing necesŽsary also allows grass to renew and mainŽtain itself under constant wear.

Regard the lot as an outdoor room or series of rooms. Hedges, fences, trees and other natural or artificial objects that limit views are the walls of these rooms. SpeciŽmen trees and shrubs or small clumps of them are major pieces of furniture, lawns and groundcovers are carpets, and flower beds are the pictures and show pieces that give color, life and individuality to the decorative scheme.

On The Other Hand See Infest Lawns In Large:

Army Worms are caterpillars of moths. They sometimes infest lawns in large numŽbers in early summer. They are controlled by mixing two and a half pounds of bran, one tablespoon of Paris green, one cup. of molasses and one pint of water and sdat-tering this bait thinly, leaving it on the lawn for two days, and then sweeping it up. Paris green is a deadly poison. Keep pets and children away from treated areas while the bait is there.

Increase or decrease the frequency of mowing according to the rate of growth, which varies from season to season, and may be influenced by bad weather, feeding, irrigation, the varieties of grass being grown and the general health of the turf itself. Different types of lawn require a different frequency of mowing. Fine lawns, for example, should be mown every two to three days, average lawns at least every seven days and preferably at intervals of three to five days and, for other sod lawns, mow at least once a week.
