Science Foundation Agreed: The U.S. Agency for International Develop¬ment and the National Science Foundation agreed to collaborate with India's National Council for Science Education. The purpose of the project is to coordinate those activities in India designed to improve education in the physical and life sciences, mathematics, en¬gineering, and polytechnics. Considerable time and effort will be needed to formulate and administer the program.
Help to underfinanced institutions also came from another source. Early in 1967 the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awarded the largest single appropriation in its 32 years to 20 small colleges to help them compete with the endowments and the federal largesse of the larger universities in the quest of high-quality faculty.
