Science Foundation: On the whole, science education made con¬siderable progress during the past year. Inter¬national cooperation was inspiring, promising more and better science programs in schools all over the world. The greater attention given to the problem of defining teaching objectives in behavioral terms should provide better eval¬uation of student accomplishments. The in¬creased emphasis on the understanding of basic concepts and principles rather than the rote memorization of facts is giving students a greater awareness of the unity of science and a better foundation of knowledge.
The U.S. Agency for International Develop¬ment and the National Science Foundation agreed to collaborate with India's National Council for Science Education. The purpose of the project is to coordinate those activities in India designed to improve education in the physical and life sciences, mathematics, en¬gineering, and polytechnics.
