Tann-forsen Waterfalls:

Tann-forsen Waterfalls Third Day: Arrive Are, a favorite summer and winter resort; funicular and then aerial ropeway from Are up to lofty Morvikshummeln; lunch in an Are hotel, probably the first-class Grand; afternoon excursion to Tann-forsen Waterfalls, whose plunging waters roar like thunder; train to Ostersund, capital of Jamtland Province, with side excursion to Frb'sdn, an island in Lake Storsjon that was important in Odin's time. Dinner at Ostersund, in the luxury restaurant called Stadskallaren, and so to bed, in the train, which starts to roll north after midnight.

Gudbrandsdal is narrow and steep-sided along most of its length, and the Lagen River, which rushes through it, is broken by numerous rapids and waterfalls. In a few places where the valley broadens out, relatively dense agricultural settlement is found. Otherwise, habitations are krgely restricted to the valley bottom beside the national highway and main-line railroad that run between Oslo and Trondheim.

See Also Waterfalls And Rapids:

The Amazon's source stream, the Maranon, has an altitude of only some 400 feet at the Peruvian border, and the Amazon itself is a mere 130 feet above sea level a thousand miles inland from its mouth.Major irregularities in the gradient, such as waterfalls and rapids, are more common in head¬waters than downstream. There are, however, numerous exceptions to this—as, for example, the rapids and falls about 100 miles above the mouth of the Congo. Differential erosion of rocks, move¬ment along faults, and other geologic factors are for small basins having comparable precipitation and rates of loss.

Stream beds in their upper section are often bare rock patchily covered by pebbles. Here the stream has greatest capacity to erode and transport farther downstream all but the largest stones. The valley in the upper course has steep sides and a V-shaped cross-section and most pools, rapids, waterfalls [6] and pot-holes [3] occur here, caused by the stream wearing away softer rock more quickly than hard rock. This results in rapids such as the cataracts of the Nile, and where a river flows from a hard bed of rock to a soft one the latter will be eroded away and a waterfall will be formed as a result.

On The Other Hand See Waterfalls [6]:

Make it a real point, however, to include these minor elements, unless the picture is a close-up portrait or a straight record. If the picture features a group of trees, a second group or other objects a little farther away will help toward balance. In picturing such subjects as waterfalls [6] it is often a help, rather than a hindrance, to include people who may be in the field of view. They should, however, look at the scene—not at the camera—and they should be at least twenty-five feet from the camera.

Here its course is broken by the Schaffhausen Falls (Ger. Rheinfall or Falls of the Rhine), some 60 feet high, reputed to be the most pic¬turesque of European waterfalls [6]. Among nu¬merous other branches, the Rhine is joined by the Aar, bearing the surplus waters of Zurich, Neu-chatel, and several other Alpine lakes. At Basel (Basle) it turns northward to separate the province of Alsace from Baden. In its course of some 233 miles in Switzerland, it descends nearly 7,000 feet.
