York City Recommended:

York City Recommended Some states were attempting to organize the administration of their public health facilities by merging departments. New Mexico and Nevada followed the example of California, Maine, Missouri, and New Hampshire and com¬bined their health and welfare departments. The commission studying the public health needs of New York City recommended a single health services administration for the city and the creation of a nonprofit corporation to operate city hospitals and health centers.

For a close-up of arts and crafts and modern architecture in the north¬ern countries, a tour of about three weeks called Design in Scandinavia is to be strongly recommended. It starts in Norway, moves to Sweden and concludes in Denmark. For information and a leaflet, address: Scandi¬navian Travel Bureau, Inc., 630 Fifth Ave., New York City 20.

See Also Weeks The City Was Cut:

The best weeks in the year, to my way of thinking, are definitely not the most crowded weeks. I refer to high spring and very early summer, say from May 10 to July 10. These are the weeks when daylight lasts longest, an important consideration on a continent where everything north of Naples is, surprisingly, north of New York. In May and June and early July, you may sightsee or loaf in sidewalk cafes quite as pleasantly in the evening as in the afternoon or the forenoon.

To carry out this mission, he was once again appointed governor-general of the Sudan and ar¬rived in Khartoum on Feb. 18, 1884. Within a few weeks the city was cut off from Egypt and surrounded by the Mahdists. Under Gordon's de¬termined and inspiring leadership the wasted garrison defended the city for 10 months. After a 317-day siege the Mahdist forces attacked on Jan. 26, 1885, and succeeded in breaking through the city's defenses. Gordon was killed on the steps of the governor-general's palace just two days before a British relief force finally reached Khartoum.

On The Other Hand See City In Northwestern:

Greenville became a town in 1838 and a city in 1887. Government is by mayor and council. Population: 10,585. GREENVILLE, a city in northwestern South Carolina, the seat of Greenville county, is situ¬ated on the Reedy River, in the piedmont, about 105 miles (168 km) northwest of Columbia.

GRANDE PRAIRIE is a city in northwestern Al¬berta, Canada, in the Peace River district, about 225 miles (362 km) in an air line northwest of Edmonton. The region is a rich agricultural area, and the city is its principal trading and service center. The first farming settlements in the district were made about 1910 in the expectation that a railroad soon would be built. Grande Prairie was incorporated as a village in 1914, and the rail¬road was completed two years later. The village became a town in 1919 and a city in 1958. Population: 11,417.
